Interested in joining the Company. 56 years old. Actor/director/writer/ex-Theatre lecturer. Wealth of experience across the board(s), but ‘resting’ for over ten years. Need to return to what I trained for, via Dartington College & the University of Warwick.

I’m a lead vocalist from local Newport band and I would like to join and take part in plays and hopefuly panto as it has been a dream since I was a child.

  6. Luke Hereford says:

Hi there. I’m very interested in joining the society as an acting member. I have had extensive experience in professional and amateur theatre since a very young age as well as extensive training in the industry.
I’d appreciate a reply very much, sincerely, Luke Hereford.

  7. Sarah Evans says:

Do you accept youth members. I have an eleven year old son who is keen to get more acting experience. He does attend a local drama school and has previously done panto @ the Riverfront.

    Hi Phil,
I’m very interested in joining the Playgoers as an acting member also, do I phone the Box Office at the Dolman to inquire?

    • philmansell says:

      Hi Ellece,
You could phone the box office – LIsa, the theatre manager should be able to help. Alternatively, come along and see ‘Humble Boy’ which is on from 11 – 15 October and meet some of the other members for a chat. Look forward to meeting you.

  9. Rafael says:

    Hello again
I’ve tried ringing the box office on many occasions, each time going through to the answer machine. Is there a good time to ring, so that I could speak with somebody?

    Many thanks

Hi, I am currently about to start my second year of Applied Drama at Newport University and I am looking for Stage Management (or Assistant/Deputy) work experience. I did Stage Manage the universities production in May and I am looking to gain more experience. I am looking to shadow/assist someone and wondered if you can help me. Thankyou, Gemma

P.S. I have emailed the Dolman Theatre without reply.

    • philmansell says:

      Hi Gemma,
Your best bet is to come along and see the first play of our new season, ‘The 39 Steps’, and chat to people there about joining and how you can help out. Cheers, Phil

Hello, I am currently studying Film and Video at Newport university, specialising in Cinematography this year. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to join Newport Playgoers to learn more about theatre lighting and set design. The theatre is my passion alongside film and would love to have the skills to work in both fields. I appreciate any information and look forward to hearing from you. Karen L.

    • philmansell says:

      Hi Karen,
We’re always looking for new members, especially ones wanting to work backstage in important areas like lighting. I’ll email you details of who to contact. Regards, Phil.
